Cancer is a very common disease known to humans. You have to take medications that make your hair fall off. But cancer is also a common disease known to animals.
What is Cancer
Cancer is not only when the cells are growing out of control, it’s when the tissues go wrong too. In dogs, the most common cancer forms include skin tumors, bone tumors, oral tumors, lymphoma, and nasal tumors. In cats, it includes oral tumors, lymphoma, lung tumors, and nasal tumors. 60% of Golden Retrievers will die of cancer. Boxers are prone to this disease too.
Symptoms
- Dramatic weight change
- Lumps or bumps
- Changes in urination
- Changes in feces (poop)
- Discharge from anywhere
- Swelling of the abdomen
- Extreme changes in appetite or energy
- Sudden lameness or pain
Causes to Cancer and Some Ways to Prevent It
Cancer could be caused by early spays and neuters because it increases the risk of lymphoma, bone cancer, hemangiosarcoma, and mast cell tumor. Flea and tick medications also show an increased risk of mouth cancer. When you rub the flea and tick medications onto the body most likely your pet will try to lick it which is how mouth cancer is caused. It can decrease if you shampoo instead. Toxic cleaners and fire retardant can cause cancer if your pet licks them off the floor, which they will most likely do. A study also shows that there is less chance of bladder cancer in dogs who are fed fresh vegetables.
Tumor Removal
Most pets when they are diagnosed with cancer do something called a tumor removal. A tumor removal is basically when you remove the tumor that the animal had produced by having “cells growing out of control”. Here is a video about a tumor removal of a Houston Toad with Cancer

- Fish Oil
Fish oil contains something called Omega 3. Which helps decrease inflation and shrink tumors.

Broccoli, like fish oil, helps decrease inflation. Like I mentioned before cancer is just a bunch of cells growing out of control, and Broccoli helps kill those cells which, like
Fish oil, shrinks tumors.
- Blueberry
I feel like I’m repeating myself. (I guess I feel that way because I am! )
Blueberry as well has those anti-inflammatory properties. It also blocks metabolic pathways which could lead to cancer. In other words it helps prevent cancer and has anti-inflammatory properties.
- Kale
Kale is loaded with vitamin K,C, and A which helps the immune system, making it so that it can help cancer as well as many other inflammatory diseases.
- Pumpkin
Pumpkin is a source of potassium and has antioxidants that help prevent dogs from having cancer.

Turmeric has an active ingredient called curcumin which is responsible for its anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric also reduces cell growth.
